Updating seagate firmware on a mac
The site was for some reason marked malicious by Google. At the beginning of 2009, Seagate had to deal with a firmware bug affecting 21 different hard drive models which caused widespread failure. The most important and comforting thing to know is that upgrading your PS4’s hard drive does NOT void the warranty.
- At this point, the system will display a screen with images of hard drives and a CD. Please note that there are different versions of the firmware for each drive model. In this example, when the application restarts in DOS, the language will be in English. - Very important instructions and warnings display. - These are the first screens you will see after the reboot. - The Sea Tools Express utility will scan your system for hard disk drives and display the Model Number, Serial Number and current Firmware Revision for each drive.- At the Welcome screen, be sure to inspect the title, which gives a description of what products and firmware versions are supported by this package - The next screen contains an important warning to remind you to backup your system. DO NOT run this firmware update on RAID systems and DO NOT turn the power off during the firmware update procedure. - At this point, Windows will shut down and your system will reboot. - The firmware update utility loads the new firmware on your Seagate disk drive. Once the firmware update is complete, the utility will exit and reboot your system. - If your keyboard does not respond within Free DOS, use a wired rather than a wireless keyboard. Most systems will automatically boot to the CD if it is bootable. However, as this task can be very risky, applying a different firmware is recommended only when the newer version specifically resolves an issue that bothers you, or brings about changes that you can make full use of.In addition to that, make sure you perform this task only in a steady power environment (such as the one ensured by a UPS unit). If the utility cannot automatically reboot your system, you must reboot the system yourself. - Download the firmware image that you need from its download page. If it does not, please consult your system documentation on how to modify the system boot sequence.- Download and burn the firmware image from its download page. - Insert the freshly burned CD back in to your Mac's CD drive. - After the chime, press and hold the Option key on the keyboard. - After the system boots to the CD, you will be presented with a README file. - To select the appropriate drive, press the corresponding key.Apple yesterday said it is working on a software update to address the problem, but has not said when it will be ready. We're waiting to hear back from Seagate about whether it plans to issue a firmware upgrade for users on non-Mac platforms who experience the same issue. So perhaps you have heard of Seagate’s little manufacturing issue with its internal 3.5-inch Barracuda 7200.11 1TB drives a while back — namely, that some drives shipping with SD15 firmware are dying horribly.I had the unfortunate experience of buying such a hard drive — the ST31000340AS — as a scratch disk for my main machine, a Mac Book Pro with a mere 240 GB internal drive (a pre-unibody revision, where the HD is insanely difficult to replace).
